Ian M. Hughes (Ph.D.) is an Assistant Professor in the Industrial/Organizational Psychology program at North Carolina State University.

Area(s) of Expertise

Dr. Hughes' primary stream of research concerns the relationships between workplace social exchanges and employee well-being. More specifically, his work often focuses on the impacts that social support (both helpful and unhelpful) and workplace mistreatment have on psychological, physiological, and behavioral outcomes for employees. This research stream is nested within his broader interest in topics related to occupational health psychology and organizational behavior. He also explores questions surrounding politics and work, social media use and work, and human-animal interaction. His work has been published in outlets such as Journal of Occupational Health Psychology, Journal of Business and Psychology, Computers in Human Behavior, and Human Performance.
