Undergraduate Admissions

Prepare to Apply

Choosing where to apply and what to study can be difficult. As you consider your options, we recommend the following steps:

  1. Identify your academic interests. View our undergraduate degrees and what you can do with a diploma from our college.
  2. Explore opportunities outside the classroom. In our college, you’ll have a chance to study abroad, land competitive internships and pursue personal interests through student organizations.
  3. Challenge yourself. Our admissions office encourages you to take honors, AP, IB, and dual enrollment courses to boost your academic record and potentially earn course credits at NC State.
  4. Connect with us. Schedule an information session or take a virtual tour of campus. We’re here to help.

How to Apply

The NC State admissions office is your best source of information for application deadlines, how to apply, and review processes. Here’s a quick summary of how to submit your application:

  1. Review application deadlines. NC State releases its application in August, and you have several deadlines to apply for fall or spring entry.
  2. Complete your application. Submit your application through the Common App or the Coalition App (NC State does not have a preference).
  3. Pay the application fee. You can pay the fee online or provide an official fee waiver.
  4. Self-report your test scores. After you’ve applied, any additional test scores can be added on your wolfPAW account. We will not accept standardized test scores on your high school transcript.
  5. Submit your transcript. Official academic transcripts should be submitted by your high school counselor.
  6. Check your status. We encourage you to check your wolfPAW account frequently throughout the application process. You can see which documents and test scores we have received or what may still be missing.

Graduate Admissions

Our college offers more than a dozen master’s degrees, doctoral programs and graduate certificates. Before starting your application, we recommend reaching out to your program director to learn more about our community.

How to Apply

You’ll submit your application through the Graduate School. Here’s a quick rundown of how the process works:

  1. Choose a graduate degree program or graduate certificate. Explore our college’s graduate degree offerings.
  2. Review application deadlines. You can search for your program’s deadlines on the Graduate School website. Your application and all supporting documents must be received on or before the program deadline or the Graduate School priority deadline, whichever is earlier.
  3. Prepare your application materials. All applications must include an application fee; one unofficial transcript from each previously attended college or university; three recommendations; and a personal statement. In addition, each graduate program has its own requirements, such as exam scores, essays, and/or resumes, etc.
  4. Submit your application. Start your application on the Graduate School’s website.

Transfer Students

Prepare to Apply

Transfer students comprise about 25% of NC State graduates each year. As you consider your transition to NC State, our admissions office recommends the following steps:

  1. Identify your academic interests. View our undergraduate degrees and what you can do with a diploma from our college.
  2. Boost your academic record. All transfer applicants should have at least 30 transferable college credit hours completed, including specific coursework and a competitive GPA based on the major you are applying for.
  3. See which courses may transfer. Search the university’s transfer course credit database to help you select courses that will transfer or to get an idea of how many credits you will bring with you to NC State.
  4. Plan your coursework. See how your credits will apply toward our degrees by viewing degree requirements.
  5. Connect with us. Schedule an information session or take a virtual tour of campus. We’re here to help.
