Bio
Sharon Herring is a native New Yorker, with familial roots in Burgaw, North Carolina. Her career spans more than thirty years in the private and public sectors, and non-profit arena. Sharon joined the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (and NC State) in 2008, journeyed through the College of Sciences and the College of Engineering, and returned to the College of Humanities and Social Sciences in 2022. Sharon earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting at Winston Salem State University and a Masters of Business Administration at North Greenville University. Sharon is a Christian minister who enjoys dancing, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
Responsibilities
The Assistant Dean for Financial Administration has oversight of the budgetary and accounting functions within College of Humanities and Social Sciences and provides expertise in fiscal management, compliance with policies and procedures, and good stewardship of resources. This position also serves on the college Administrative Leadership Team participating in strategic planning and operational decisions in support of the college’s philosophy, mission, and vision. The Assistant Dean works with deans, heads, and other leaders to anticipate and proactively address challenges and opportunities in support of strategic objectives. This position directs the college Office of Financial Services to establish sound business practices and long-term goals for the efficient and effective operation of the office.
