Mary Affee

Bio

Dr. Mary Affee is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor. She is the Founder and Clinical Director of Horizon Integrated Wellness Group, PLLC, Dr. Affee specializes in Play Therapy, and she is the Past President of the North Carolina Association for Play Therapy. Dr. Affee received the 2023 NASW-NC Social Worker of the Year award. In 2022, she was also awarded the Emerging Leader National Award of Excellence from the Association for Play Therapy. In April 2020, Dr. Affee volunteered her time and expertise to provide psychological first-aid to New York’s first responders during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Affee is also a part-time lecturer at North Carolina State University’s School of Social Work.

Dr. Affee is also a Licensed School Administrator and has spent more than 12 years in public education serving as a School Social Worker. Dr. Affee has extensive clinical experience in trauma informed practice and earned an award of excellence from the National Institute for Trauma and Loss in 2014. She is the author of children’s books, Adalina’s Mask, Adalina and Eli Play Together and co-author of Sammy Saw Something on the Screen. She recently co-edited a book: Play Therapy Treatment Planning for Children and Families: A Guide for Mental Health Professionals.
