Bio

Haley Kinsler is a founding member of the Fourth Ward Oral History Project,  a multifaceted and interdisciplinary project documenting the experience of residents from the Fourth Ward neighborhood in Raleigh who were displaced by an urban renewal project that took place in the late 60s to mid-70s. Their work on the project has included organizing and conducting interviews with residents, the digitization of city records relating to urban renewal, and ongoing development of a documentary about the Fourth Ward Historic Neighborhood Association.

Their additional research includes work on the North Carolina Trans and Nonbinary Language Project, where they are focused on issues of trans and Southern identity. Their M.A. capstone was entitled “‘There’s a lot of baggage’: Trans North Carolinians’ orientations to Southern identity in discourse.”
