Bio

Professor Johnson currently serves as the MSW Practicum Coordinator and Senior Lecturer in the School of Social Work here at North Carolina State University. Professor Johnson has over twenty-five years of experience in community mental health working to support individuals and families in rural and urban communities.  Having served in every level of service supporting the mental health needs of children, Professor Johnson is skilled in various treatment approaches designed to strengthen families.  Additionally, Professor Johnson has a background in Child Welfare serving in roles in In-Home services, Permanency Planning (Foster Care) and ultimately, Child and Family Team Facilitator.  Professor Johnson is actively engaged with the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), the accrediting body for Social Work Education Programs. Professor Johnson believes that futures can be shifted progressively with belongingness as a guide, innovation as its tool and empathy at the foundation. She is a member of the Social Work Coalition on North Carolina Workforce Development where her voice is valued for advancing the future of the Social Work workforce. Professor Johnson is committed to collaborative work that gives a voice to the silenced.
