On-Campus Pantry Seeks to Feed the Pack

The college diet portrayed by popular culture consists of ramen noodles, hopes and dreams. Thanks to NC State’s new food pantry, Feed the Pack, much more nutritious food is now available to the NC State community.

A Capitalism for the People: lecture by Luigi Zingales

Author and economist Luigi Zingales will give the 2013 John W. Pope Lecture at NC State University at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3. A prolific contributor to the academic literature of economics and finance, Zingales also writes for broader audiences. His lecture will be based on his 2012 book, “A Capitalism for the People: Recapturing the Lost Genius of American Prosperity,” in which he applauds America’s personal freedoms and economic achievements, but warns of developing problems.

Teaching Teens Nanotech Ethics

High school students gathered from across the state at Durham's School of Science and Math to learn about the ethical issues surrounding nanotechnologies from political scientist Mike Cobb and chemical engineer Jesse Jur, who encouraged the teens to expand their views about the future of technology.

Pack Polls Produce Strong Data, Savvy Students

Students in political scientist Mike Cobb's class conduct Pack Polls on campus to gather data on current topics, most recently, about the 2012 elections. Cobb shows his students how to gather, understand, and share data. They also get the chance to travel to Washington, DC, to meet and network with other polling professionals.

Educating for Energy Security

Political Science Prof Bill Boettcher gives students a rigorous education about a pressing challenge of the 21st century: energy security. This spring, his students' research took them out of the classroom and into a simulated session where they acted the parts of world energy powers, to the halls of the Pentagon, and beyond. The students' experiences were made possible in part by donations to the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
