Photo Gallery: Graduate Research on Display at Annual Symposium

Communication graduate student Ekaterina Bogomoletc presents her poster at the 12th Annual NC State Graduate Student Research Symposium.

More than 40 Humanities and Social Sciences students displayed their scholarship at the 12th Annual NC State Graduate Student Research Symposium.

The symposium, presented by the Graduate School and the Graduate Student Association, gives students an opportunity to present posters on research they conducted independently, with faculty or with other students. Judges from across campus evaluate students on the quality of their research, information on their poster, oral communication about the poster and creativity and aesthetic qualities of the poster.

Four Humanities and Social Sciences students received awards for their posters. They are:

  • Karen Eisenhauer, English, earned first place in the Humanities category for her poster, “Directives in Disney and Pixar Movies: A Quantitative Analysis.”
  • Cecilia Tomasatti, English, earned second place in the Humanities category for her poster, “Constructing Identity Among Italians at NC State.”
  • Ekaterina Bogomoletc, Communication, earned third place in the Humanities category for her poster, “Are We Entering the Second Cold War? Media Agenda and Public Opinion in Russia.”
  • Deniza Mulaj, Anthropology, earned second place in the Social Sciences and Management category for her poster, “Under the Bridge? The Ethnographic Study of Kosovar and Serbian Youth Living in the Divided City of Mitrovica, Kosova.”

In total, more than 200 NC State graduate students presented at the symposium. Twenty-five were recognized in eight different contest categories. All winners receive a plaque and cash prize. First place winners receive $350; second place, $200; and third place, $100.
