STEM matters. And NC State is critical to preparing the next generation of leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The humanities and social sciences also play a pivotal role in addressing the challenges of the 21st century—from energy, the environment, health and well-being to security and safety. “Our college’s disciplines help inform the way people think and act,” says CHASS Dean Jeff Braden.

“The knowledge of the social sciences and the wisdom of the humanities will help shape discovery and innovation and will translate and transform the insights of the academy into the fabric of our society through engaged scholarship that addresses the problems of our society and our world.”

During the College of Humanities and Social Sciences’ 50th year, we are not only looking back over our rich history. We are also looking ahead to the next 50 years. In this video, Dean Jeff Braden is joined by  faculty, alumni, and students who share their hopes and visions for what lies ahead for our college. As always, we welcome your comments. This video also appears on the CHASS 50th historical timeline.
