Nonprofit careers, here we come!

Some of the newest NC State graduates with a minor in nonprofit studies.

Hardworking students in the college’s nonprofit studies minor helped the Institute for Nonprofits reach a significant milestone in December when its number of graduates passed the 100 mark.

A total of 104 students have graduated with a minor in nonprofit studies since it was established in 2006. Another 110 NC State University undergrads are currently enrolled.

Echoing the sentiments of several students, graduate Shakilya Sutton of Raleigh recounted how she felt unsure about her academic and career choices until she discovered the nonprofit studies minor. “I now feel like I’m truly called to my work,” says Sutton, who intends to pursue a career with a nonprofit that serves those battling breast cancer. “It’s changed my life.”

Professor of History David Zonderman teaches a course in the history of nonprofits. “This is a challenging minor, and it really does attract the best and brightest,” he says.
