2007 Awards for Excellence
CHASS staff and faculty gathered on Tuesday, April 10, in the Caldwell Lounge for the college’s annual EPA/SPA Awards for Excellence celebration. The Awards for Excellence program recognizes the outstanding contributions of EPA and SPA staff.
The six nominees represented the front lines of department offices and included departmental secretaries, processing assistants, student services assistants, and an administrator. Each demonstrates the very best in commitment to service, quality of work, and dedication to excellence. The CHASS EPA winner is Amanda W. Tueting of the Dean’s Office. The SPA winner is Mary Catherine Cole of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. They will represent the college at the university-level Awards for Excellence celebration in May.

EPA
Amanda W. Tueting, Dean’s Office
Amanda is the director for college research administration. Under her leadership, the CHASS Research Office has increased its organizational efficiency dramatically, raised the level of service support to faculty and staff appreciably, and helped CHASS enter a new era in the generation of external research support.
SPA
Cristina Carrillo, Department of Psychology
In her role as student services assistant, Cristina is pleasant and professional to students. She goes the extra mile to provide information on university regulations and policies that apply to students’ unique situations.
Mary Catherine Cole, Department of Sociology and Anthropology
As a member of the front office support staff, Mary Catherine is the go-to person in her department. She performs a wide variety of tasks, from calendar scheduling and typing to coordinating the main office.
Deborah (Debbie) W. Douglas, Department of English
As the department head’s secretary, Debbie solves difficult problems and manages to always make students, faculty, and administrators happy and satisfied.
Ashley Duncan, Department of Social Work
Ashley is a processing assistant for the department and is the primary contact for the NC child welfare workers and community partners receiving training in family-centered meetings, processing registrations from participants across all 100 North Carolina counties, which last year alone totaled over 2,000.
Grace Wisser, Department of Social Work
This student services assistant provides calm, good will, savvy, and a lot of good sense as she sets priorities and meets deadlines in a very busy office.
