Student of the Month: Hayden Russell

Hayden Russell is a graduating senior majoring in English and minoring in Classical Studies. A University Scholar, he has two ongoing research projects and an editorial internship, has studied abroad in the UK, and is a member of the Skateboarding and Game Design clubs. Hayden intends to continue his education in digital rhetoric and game studies at the graduate level.

Cody Davidson is a Communication junior minoring in Business and English. He has held a Communication internship with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, studied abroad in the Netherlands, and been an Educational Psychology Research Assistant. He looks forward to a career in public relations or marketing.

Student Researches Electronic Music Subcultures, Immigrant Treatment

The subculture of electronic dance music. How immigrants are represented in national media. Undergraduate Shelby Coury (sociology and anthropology) says the research she’s conducted in these disparate areas has been challenging, eye-opening, and hugely beneficial. She has gained experience, knowledge and confidence in her abilities as a researcher.

Laila Knio (Psychology, French ’17) plans to become a physician. She's also committed to global concerns. So when she studied abroad, she filmed a documentary in war-torn Lebanon to highlight "extraordinary people who have helped others despite religious or ethnic differences."

Spechel Wooten is a senior with majors in anthropology and criminology, and a minor in forensic science. She has interned with the Wake County Public Defender's Office, NC State Bureau of Investigation, and NC State's CSLEPS. She has worked on campus for University Housing and University Conference Services. She intends to apply to law school after graduation in December 2014.
