Student’s Documentary Captures ‘Common Link’ Between Us: Humanity

Laila Knio, a senior psychology major who is graduating in May, has completely maximized her four years at NC State. Between her responsibilities as a Park scholar, avid traveler and pre-med student, she managed to create an entire film. "The Common Link" is a 45-minute documentary that chronicles the tales of eight different Lebanese people.

Alums Create “Harbinger”

NC State alumni Kieran Moreira (Film Studies) and Andrew Martin (Textile Engineering) bring their new independent film to the Hunt Library. HARBINGER is a live-action, fantasy-drama, seen through a child’s perspective that showcases Raleigh and North Carolina as a premier filmmaking location. The story follows Harold, an adopted ten-year-old boy, who climbs to the top of an oak tree in hopes of catching his unborn baby brother falling from space. Martin and Moreira will be on hand for a post-film discussion. Run time is approximately 30 minutes.

Alum helps produce winning Super Bowl commercial

On Super Bowl Sunday, more than 108 million Americans crowded around their televisions. Some were in it solely for the game, and others were interested in the commercials. Chris Crutchfield (Communication '06) was one watching the commercials closely. He had worked on a commercial for a Doritos-sponsored contest. But no one knew whether the commercial would be one of the top two contest entries and earn airtime. The commercial Crutchfield produced did air during the Super Bowl. Although he and his team didn't win any monetary awards, their efforts continue to win them recognition.

Creative Writing student Tim Reavis teamed up with two other students to create "The Strong One," a short film about a young boy and his buddy -- a brontosaurus. The filmmakers -- two of whom graduated this spring -- took top honors at the international CampusMovieFest in Hollywood after winning the competition at NC State. Bravo!
