Yellowstone National Park is Home and Office for Psychology Alum

For psychology alumnus Larry Glickman, wildlife at the window is just one perk of living and working in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. Glickman, who graduated from NC State in 1990, can also see the travertine terraces of Mammoth Hot Springs from his back window. A park ranger, Glickman handles camping reservations and back-country permits from May to September. In the off-season, he monitors commercial filming in the park and is a stay-at-home dad to 3- and 6-year-old sons.

Tommy Scarantino (Poli Sci '95) runs the Federal Correctional Institution at El Reno, Okla., home to violent felons and white collar criminals. The day President Barack Obama paid El Reno a visit will serve as one of many memorable experiences in a career that started when Scarantino was an undergraduate at NC State.

Alum Makes His Mark in Sports, Fashion and Pop Culture Branding

During his days as a student at NC State, Patrick Joyce (Poli Sci '98) spent hours under the guidance of track coach Rollie Geiger, learning lessons on running, leadership and life. He continues to apply those lessons as director of licensing and brand development for IMG, which represents some of the world’s biggest sports figures, fashion icons, companies and events.

Alumna Wires Rural Idaho Hospital

Darla Anglen-Whitley (English '86) is on the front lines of a health-care revolution. She manages health informatics at Syringa Hospital and Clinics in rural Idaho, where she oversees technology that gives patients electronic access to their doctors and medical records. The American Hospital Association named Syringa Idaho’s most wired hospital in 2014 and 2015 in recognition of its work to give patients and doctors a system for secure online communication and access to medical records.

The Scoop on Dog Poop: Grad Student’s Research Informs the Public

Clodagh Lyons-Bastian is well aware of the dog poop conversation in Raleigh. After noticing more and more of her neighbors lamenting about unpicked-up poop, she decided to research attitudes and behaviors around dog waste removal while earning her master’s degree in communication this year. Now the recent graduate and public speaking lecturer is sharing her findings, both with area residents and a municipal advisory board, to help create a cleaner city.

Alum Finds His Niche in Reality TV

Brian “B-Rob” Robinson is not your ordinary song-and-dance man. At 39, the Charlotte, N.C., native and NC State communication alumnus has built a successful career in Southern California producing reality TV shows — specializing in amateur singing and dancing competitions. His credits include FOX-TV's So You Think You Can Dance and 12 years with American Idol, the show that launched fellow Wolfpacker Clay Aiken.
