NC State faculty and staff helped stock the shelves in a big way this holiday season at the university’s on-campus food pantry.

Donors gave a record 1,053 pounds of food during the 2016 Humanities and Social Sciences food drive benefiting the Feed the Pack Food Pantry at NC State. The donations will assist the pantry in its mission to combat food insecurity experienced by students, staff and other members of the Wolfpack family throughout the year.

Humanities and Social Sciences has organized the holiday food drive since 2012, offering a friendly challenge to other groups across campus to raise the most canned goods and other non-perishable items. This year’s participants were NC State’s Poole College of Management, College of Engineering, College of Natural Resources, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, College of Design, College of Education, Provost’s Office and the Division of Academic and Student Affairs.

“I declare the winner of this year’s challenge to be the students and staff who rely on the pantry to round out their food stability and security,” said Humanities and Social Sciences Dean Jeff Braden. “Thank you to everyone who participated, and we look forward to another record year next year.”

Braden and other Humanities and Social Sciences faculty and staff offered Christmas carols as they picked up donations around campus this week. It’s become a tradition for the college to sing the slightly re-written songs each year. Take this version of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” for instance:

Now help us to feed the Wolfpack
Now help us to feed the Wolfpack
Now help us to feed the Wolfpack
So we can all have good cheer.

Your food we will take
To the pantry to make
Good tidings for Christmas
And a happy new year.

Located on main campus in Broughton Hall, Feed the Pack aims to combat food insecurities experienced by members of the Wolfpack family. It’s sustained by donations from the community. To learn more, check out the “Feed the Pack Pantry” Facebook page or email feedthepackpantry@ncsu.edu.
