Toward Sustainable Development: Town Hall Meeting
The social, economic and environmental decisions we make today will affect generations to come.
So, what decisions are best? And how can we make a difference?
NC State will help lead a discussion on “Forging a Sustainable Future” during a town hall event on Thursday, Jan. 14, at the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences.
During the event, which starts at 7 p.m., students from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences will introduce 17 sustainable development goals recently approved by world leaders. NC State psychology professor Lori Foster, a member of the White House’s new Social and Behavioral Sciences Team, will join two other panelists to discuss the goals and how they can be achieved by advances in science and education.
The United Nations’ 193 member states approved the sustainable development goals in September as part of a new sustainable development agenda. The town hall panelists, who also include Chief of the United Nations Academic Impact Ramu Damodaran and museum director Emlyn Koster, will discuss how the U.N. will work with entities such as universities and museums to educate, motivate and empower citizens on collective solutions. Audience participation will be encouraged.
