Ansilta De Luca-Westrate

For the service learning project of this capstone course, I partnered with Neighbor to Neighbor Outreach. The non-profit organization reaches out to two communities in raleigh: one in Southeast Raleigh and another in North Raleigh. At both branches there are programs for youth including homework lab, basketball clinics, community gardening and weekly events led by volunteers. For adults there are legal services, job assistance, and small group opportunities. My position in the project was to work alongside the coordinator of the youth outreach program as the head leader for a team of volunteers. I organized and facilitated weekly outreach activities, led weekly team meetings, worked in weekly homework labs, and contributed to the community garden. The project deepened my existing relationship with Neighbor to Neighbor and allowed me to develop civic leadership skills.
