Army Vet, LPS Student Lands Legislative Fellowship

After serving in the United States Army for eight years, Daniel Snedden trained his sights on completing his undergraduate degree. NC State's Leadership in the Public Sector program is enabling him to do just that. Through a legislative fellowship, Snedden is preparing and presenting a research paper to the entire North Carolina congressional delegation about the impact of budget sequestration on military readiness.

Swimming in New Waters

Natalie Labonge, a junior majoring in Communication and Spanish, studied abroad in Spain during Summer 2015. A member of NC State's Women's Swimming Team, she was determined to mesh her academic interests with her busy athletic schedule.

After reaching thousands of students, faculty and staff on its Raleigh campus, NC State’s Educating the Educated program is quickly becoming a national model for language diversity education. The National Association of Student Personnel Administrators affirmed the program's broadening impact, awarding Educating the Educated its grand gold medal for excellence.

Psychology Students Win Awards for Education, Family-based Research

Senior psychology majors Rahma Hida and Ebony Leon have pursued their undergraduate research interests into the real world, not simply for the sake of their transcripts, but to answer important questions. Both students, who participate in the Initiative Maximizing Student Diversity at NC State, recently received research awards for their respective projects at the 2015 Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students.

Thomasina Williams is a nontraditional student who is willing to step outside the familiar. A social work major, wife and mother of two, she's the first member of her family to attend college. And this summer, she packed her bags and traveled to Italy, where she learned Italian and studied the history and culture of land far from home. She says she's a changed person, and glad for it. Outstanding Student Builds Impressive Resume, Here and Abroad

Andriy Shymonyak is an accomplished NC State history and political science double major. The Park Scholar and University Honors Program member has earned several awards and scholarships – including being named a finalist for the prestigious Harry S. Truman Scholarship. Through his deep exploration of Ukrainian politics, history, and how they relate to eastern and central Europe, he has also built an impressive resume as an undergraduate, both here and abroad.
