Two NC State Professors Awarded National Endowment for the Humanities Grants

Two NC State professors have received grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) as part of $29 million in awards that will fund 215 humanities projects across the country.

History professor David Ambaras and his colleague Kate McDonald, a history professor at the University of California Santa Barbara, were awarded a $99,995 Digital Humanities Advancement grant. They plan to build version 2.0 of their project “Bodies and Structures: Deep-mapping Modern East Asian History” and develop a new suite of analytical tools for the open-source publishing platform Scalar.

Film studies professor Marsha Gordon was awarded a $60,000 Public Scholar Program grant to study the life and works of the best-selling author Ursula Parrott. Gordon plans to write a book about how Parrott’s unconventional life choices and writing intersected with meaningful changes in American life in the early 20th century. Gordon is spending the 2019-2020 academic year as a fellow at the National Humanities Center.
