Thank You for Doing the Extraordinary

More than 7,400 donors exceed campaign goal, raise $41M for Humanities and Social Sciences

Students talk on the Court of North Carolina

Dear alumni and friends,

Spring is almost in the air — and we can’t wait. There’s something special about Brickyard blooms and celebrating student accomplishments. As we move forward, I want to take a look back and share my gratitude for you. Our college closed a truly remarkable fundraising campaign on Dec. 31.

At the beginning of NC State’s five-year Think and Do the Extraordinary campaign, we set an ambitious goal of $35 million for the college. Thanks to 7,408 donors, we closed the campaign at $41,089,185. That’s truly amazing.

By supporting our college, you have:

  • Created opportunities. Inside the classroom, across North Carolina and around the world, you’ve helped students land internships, study abroad, attend research conferences and so much more.
  • Aided students in need. You’ve bolstered scholarships, helped us recruit top students from all backgrounds and allowed us to say yes to more life-changing moments.
  • Supported our faculty’s brilliant scholarship. Your contributions have helped empower faculty to create new knowledge and develop solutions to global challenges.
  • Fostered a more diverse and inclusive community. You’ve helped us launch new initiatives to support students from underrepresented populations, including new funding for hands-on learning opportunities.

We are sincerely thankful for your generosity.

And although this campaign has come to an end, my campaign to better the lives of people in our community is ongoing. Let’s celebrate what we’ve done and also roll up our sleeves. We have more work to do together, for the good of all we serve.

I hope you enjoy the stories in this issue of Accolades, and I look forward to sharing more with you in 2022.

With gratitude,

Deanna P. Dannels, Ph.D.
Dean and Professor of Communication
