Bio

Dr. Irina Randriamiadana was born in Madagascar and raised in France. She holds a Ph.D. in French and Francophone Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Master’s degree in French and Francophone Studies from North Carolina State University, and a Maîtrise in French Law from the University of Clermont-Ferrand. Her diverse academic background informs her research, which focuses on Afropean, Beur, and overseas French territories’ literature and culture, French colonial history, and the experiences of Muslims in contemporary France. She also has a keen interest in food studies, exploring the cultural and historical significance of food in Francophone contexts. Dr. Randriamiadana’s interdisciplinary approach blends literary criticism with postcolonial, sensory, and gender studies.

In addition to her research, Dr. Randriamiadana is a dedicated educator, passionate about teaching and mentoring students. She has held teaching positions at various institutions, including UNC Chapel Hill and East Carolina University. Her commitment to education was recognized at North Carolina State University, where she received an Excellence in Classroom Teaching Award. Dr. Randriamiadana is known for her dynamic teaching style and her dedication to fostering critical thinking and cross-cultural understanding. She has played a key role in developing curricula that highlight the diversity and richness of the Francophone world.
