{"id":3862,"date":"2026-01-20T19:17:38","date_gmt":"2026-01-20T19:17:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chass.ncsu.edu\/intranet\/?page_id=3862"},"modified":"2026-01-20T19:17:42","modified_gmt":"2026-01-20T19:17:42","slug":"computer-equipment-surplus-procedures","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/chass.ncsu.edu\/intranet\/it\/computer-equipment-surplus-procedures\/","title":{"rendered":"Computer Equipment Surplus Procedures"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n\n<p>Please do&nbsp;<strong>NOT<\/strong>&nbsp;send any computer material directly to surplus.&nbsp;<strong>ALL<\/strong>&nbsp;of it should be sent through CHASS IT so that the equipment can be re-used, scrapped for parts, etc. In addition, please note that it is&nbsp;<strong>REQUIRED<\/strong>&nbsp;by the University that all hard drives be wiped (zeroed out) in order to remove all University-related information from them. CHASS&nbsp;IT has the software and equipment required to wipe these drives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Any computer equipment within the College&nbsp;that is ready to be sent to surplus should be processed in the following manner:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The equipment should be taken off of the department&#8217;s inventory lists (computer and\/or insurance). Make sure you have the correct serial number and model number, description and other pertinent information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Either take equipment to CHASS IT (309 Winston Hall) or give them a call and they will come and pick up the equipment. Have CHASS\u00a0IT personnel sign for the equipment that is being picked up. You should provide CHASS\u00a0IT with a list of all the equipment being transferred at the time of transfer.
